“The everyday is human. The earth, the sea, forest, light, night, do not represent everydayness, which belongs first of all to the dense presence of great urban centres….The everyday is not at home in our dwelling places, it is not in offices or churches, any more than in libraries or museums. It is in the street—if it is anywhere.”(Johstone, p.39)This passage from Blanchot’s essay, I take it as humans are more important than anything in this world even in this universe. Humans are the center of the universe. Everything revolves around humans. It is not to say that the earth and everything in it has no importance but all these have their roles. What I believe is that God has created everything and God has placed an order in all things. Before creating man on the sixth day, God prepared and created a world for man to live in first. God is in control of everything, and the everyday is made up of man being intertwined within the things of the earth.
I don’t agree with the fact that everyday is only the street. The everyday is everywhere, at home in our dwelling places or offices, schools or especially at churches. The fact that these places are where the majority of people of the world congregate and spend their time, minus the homeless people who reside on the streets, I disagree that the street is where everyday is. Just like the majority of the class I found this reading somewhat difficult.
